No, but I did think Bell's was going to move to a new area, but I guess they just ended the park totally. The Joyland Whacky Shack is abandoned and being ruined by punks. I don't think there are any more. The one at Waldameer is the only one.

Wait, I totally forgot about Lumalusion, but that has been totally changed inside. But, that I suppose could count as one.

What happened to Hunt's Whacky Shack after 1995 did they (Catanoso's/Dinosaur Beach people) just dump it in the trash? I heard that most of the props were saved and are in storage in Wildwood, they were used for a haunted hay ride on the beach that is no more. It had a really whacked out and unique facade. I saw it personally between 1980-1983 at night with the colored whacky shack letters slowly rocking back and forth. There are some YouTube videos showing it with the letters moving. Also outside it played a howling sound like a werewolf, ow, ow, owooooooooo! I was at Wildwood between 1980-1983 and Aug 1995, June 1996 and June 1998. There's a new mirror maze attraction coming to the right front of Hunt's Pier. It's a start, despite the loss of the Nugget. At least it's an indoor attraction. But, I would have liked to see a new walk-through haunted attraction in Wildwood because right now, there is none. In 1980 every pier had dark rides, haunted walk-throughs, fun houses, etc. and they were all open.

Dark ride fans should visit any surviving dark rides and enjoy them as much as possible, for they too may be gone one day. It is an unfortunate reality. Although it is human nature to miss defunct dark rides, be thankful and treasure the ones that are left! Here is a list on our site of Tracy's surviving attractions: www.angelfire.com/notlmpresed/tracysurvivingattractions.html

Well, I hope the Haunted House survives for many more years. The only time I rode it was July, 2000. I was in OC, MD Aug 1988 and July, 2000. I only went to Jolly Roger in 1988.

I just noticed this on the front page It looks like Hunt's Whacky Shack but a bit different. Was this Hunt's Whacky Shack or did he build an identical one somewhere else? I do know that it was a custom job, an Allan Herschell dark ride "Devil's Inn" was used to build the Shack in 1964. It was expanded to twice the size in the back. Anthony's Wildwood boardwalk site shows it when it was moved toward the front of the pier in 1969-1970 when they built the Log Flume across from the Golden Nugget. It shows two sections, front and back. The back section was the new addition in 1964 when it became the Whacky Shack. It was SBNO in summer 1995, and was trashed off the pier early 1996 during the renovation into Dinosaur Beach, which became extinct Sept. 1998. It was retitled "Hunt's Horror" in 1989, and you can see good shots of it at funchase.com that were recently added. I heard that the props from it were used for a haunted hay ride on the beach and are in storage somewhere in Wildwood. And Ralph from funchase has the Whacky Shack carving that used to hang in the Ocean Theater across from the pier, it was at the old Hunt's Lot north of Cape May propped against a building in 1998 and it might have gone to the trash if it wasn't for Ralph saving it. Also, Anthony built a model of it that is on display in the Wildwood Historical Museum along with Golden Nugget and Castle Dracula models.

This concept is the Whacky Shack. The only difference I see is that in place of the tub and barrel there was a Laughing Sal sorta thing in a display box.

Why is it that some park owners care about preserving their Tracy attractions (like Waldameer and Trimper's) but other parks didn't give a rat's a about their Tracy rides just bulldoze 'em down and get 'em to the landfill was their attitude. Like Dorney Park, Hunt's Pier (owners after Bud Hunt post 1985-first ride removals were early 1989) Cedar Fair couldn't care less about preserving the remaining Tracy rides at Dorney Park which were removed after 1992, 1993 yet they now have a full blown Haunt event which is and has expanded with new attractions and they even had a Tracy skeleton horse on display in one of the outdoor haunts. Kennywood got rid of the Le Cachot after 1998, and Erieview dismantled the Fright Zone, because the park closed, parts of which are now at Conneaut Lake Park awaiting rebuilding, it was the Haunted House at West View which moved to Erieview 1979 and rebuilt as the Fright Zone in a one-level format. So, parts of the ride returned to PA. And I have no idea what is going to happen to Joyland's Whacky Shack or the parts from Bell's Phantasmagoria which are in storage because the park was evicted from its 50-year spot and it's future in a new location is up in the air. They were supposed to rebuild, the dark ride, too. Lake Winnie got rid of its walk-through Wacky Shack a few years ago but they still have the Castle. Track, cars and some props from Miracle Strip, FL's Haunted Castle (originally 13th Hour) were saved and now operates as a seasonal dark ride in Birmingham, AL. The guy has a whole bunch of pics from the Miracle Strip park, the haunted attractions, etc. Haunted Castle/13th Hour was a Bill Tracy dark ride built in the 1960's and met it's end simply because the park owner wanted to sell the land for condos in 2004. The park closed Sept. 2004.

I think Anthony updated the WS page with two new photos, one from 1966 and the other at night from a later year. You can blow them up by right clicking on them and selecting view image. www.angelfire.com/nj/wwbysea/HUNT/whackyshack.html It seems the ride went through minor cosmetic changes throughout it's three decades, like the tree trunk in the middle was replaced with a thin wood brown square pole by the 1980's as evident in the 1984 shot. Also the WS letters were outlined by the 1980's, previously they were just solid colors. In the 1960's it was originally located across from the now-gone Golden Nugget Mine next to Keystone Kops which was on it's left. In 1970 both rides were relocated to face each other by the Flyer coaster because the space was needed for the new Log Flume. Here is what it looked like as Hunt's Horror between 1989-1995. www.funchase.com/Images/WhackyShack/HuntsHorror.htm Looked like it was falling apart. It was closed in 1995, and removed early 1996 during the remodeling into Dinosaur Beach.

There is a new walk through darkride being built at the entrance to the old Sportland pier in Wildwood NJ.
The new Ghost ship on Mariner's landing in wildwood is also worth the trip, but wait until it's dark outside, because it has some outdoor areas within it.

Yeah, I've heard about that. It does look very cool. They put a lot of work into it.

I wonder if the name "Ghost Ship" was used in honor of Tracy because of the former Pirate Ship "Skua" on Hunt's Pier?
