Good question...I have no idea! I personally took all of the extererior photos of Whacky Shack posted on billtracy.net. I believe I took them in 2006, and there is no pot. I guess the water was permanently shut off on the chimney...no need for a pot! Also, I don't know for sure if there ever was a leg in the right window. On Tracy's original drawing, there were legs in the right window. You can also see this drawing on billtracy.net. Being Tracy kept very true to his original drawings, you can safely say there probably were legs when Whacky Shack was first built. I don't know where the legs went though...maybe she moved!

Another thing I remember the Whacky Shack having was a dog in the left window. It still has a dog, but it's wooden. I thaught it was fiberglass. I don't really remember. Maybe it was replaced because it was falling apart because of the weather.

Come to think of it, I do remember seeing legs in the window. I couldn't make out what they were in the 90's, but now the legs are out.

Thanks for the info confirming that there were legs! Most likely they deteriorated like the original dog.

I think the legs were stolen during the winter last year or the year before.

Really? Someone must've really wanted those legs, having to get a ladder to go up there! I wonder if it was the same thing for the fiberglass dog, too.

They may have been removed during the winter.

People amaze me...I can't believe someone would steal the legs!

Well after that 1992 brochure of Waldameer I found: 3.bp.blogspot.com/_Fd-zt93-dV4/SZy5oXxzU3I/AAAAAAAABAY/fqYRI1bD8_o/s1600-h/Waldameer_1992_2.jpgI'm starting to think that the legs, the window out-jet that held the legs, the right chimney's vase, the vulture, the chimney cap, the right shutter on the right inside window, the dog, outer flower window, and the roofs on both sides were never put in. The only change I can see from this 1992 photo and the earlier picture: www.angelfire.com/notlmpresed/waldameerwhackyshack/scan.jpgis that in the 1992 one the right chimney appears to be there. It could be some tree branches. But, would it be under maintenence that often, that in every old picture of it the front is not complete? What are your thoughts on this?

I'm very lucky to be the ride op at Waldameer's Whacky Shack this year. Here's some answer to your questions : Yes, the original dog was destroyed back in the late 70's.He was carved out of foam and was animated to look like he was peeking out of his house. During this time frame, most all of the ornamental accents had been destroyed by the weather as well leaving the Shack to looking very bare . Back in 1993 the whole top of the facade was taken down off of the building. All the wood was relaced with treated plywood. All of the ornamental pieces (including the womans legs) where put back in place. Speaking of the womans legs, yes it is true--they where stolen off of the building!
